On March 13, 2019, Joko Widodo, the President of the Republic of Indonesia, formally opened the Muara Baru Modern Fish Market in Penjaringan, North Jakarta.
The market is the largest in Indonesia’s biggest fishing port and offers a variety of freshwater fish, such as carp, catfish, gourami, and freshwater pomfret, as well as marine fish like tuna, mackerel, and skipjack. The market is also a popular destination for marine tourism and fish culinary tours in Jakarta.
