Netherland Dwarf Rabbit Criteria

The netherland dwarf (ND) rabbit is a hobbyist favorite alongside rex, anggora, fuzzy lop, and flemish giant rabbits. The netherland dwarf rabbit is classified as a short-haired rabbit like the rex rabbit.

Netherland dwarf rabbits are a popular choice among rabbit enthusiasts due to their small size and endearing appearance. Weighing between 1.1 to 2.5 pounds (0.5 to 1.1 kilograms), they are considered one of the smallest rabbit breeds.

Their bodies are compact and well-rounded, and their short ears stand upright. Their fur is available in a vast array of colors and patterns, with solid, bi-color, and tri-color mixes being commonplace.

Known for their friendly and affectionate nature, netherland dwarfs can make wonderful pets, particularly when properly socialized. They are often gentle and good with children. However, it’s important to provide them with proper care and attention, just like any other rabbit. With proper care, these rabbits can live for 7 to 12 years or even longer.

Contest opportunities are possible if the netherland dwarf rabbit has several criteria. The ND rabbit must be healthy with a round, petite, and pug figure. In addition, it needs to have strong legs that can support body weight. It also makes the appearance of the rabbit proportional so that in the assessment of conformity or body figure a high number can be obtained (scale 5).

The netherland dwarf rabbit needs excellent care so that its short fur is silky smooth, not coarse. That is a sign that the rabbit is diligent in grooming. Judges usually feel the entire body fur before peering at the belly fur. The belly hairs are often found to be coarse because they come into contact with the floor or base of the cage. Ideally, the belly hairs should remain smooth.
