Care for Flowering Vanda Orchids

It takes approximately 4.5-5 years to nurture Vanda orchids from the bottled to the flowering stage. Vanda orchids, which have around 80 species worldwide, require 40% shade and do not need a growing medium as their roots hang in the air. A wired pot is sufficient to hold the roots and hang the plant.

Flowering and maintaining the monopodial orchid requires discipline, but is not difficult. Vanda orchids require watering 2-3 times a day. During the flowering stage, it is important to avoid watering the flowers directly.

Additionally, fertilization should occur weekly using liquid NPK compound fertilizer applied to both the leaves and roots. Technical abbreviations should be explained upon first use. When in the vegetative growth stage, it is recommended to use NPK compound fertilizer with a balanced ratio of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium elements.

After the plant has grown well, apply NPK compound fertilizer with higher levels of phosphorus and potassium than nitrogen to encourage flowering. With proper care, vanda orchids can flower 2-3 times a year.

It is important to note that the durability of vanda orchid flowers is around 1.5-2 weeks if they are kept in a low-lying location. However, in highland locations, vanda orchid flowers can last for more than a month.
