The Istiqlal Mosque, which President Soeharto inaugurated in 1978, had its first renovation in 2019-2020, during President Joko Widodo. In addition to IDR15 billion in activity funding in 2021, the Ministry of Finance paid IDR511.4 billion to give the Istiqlal Mosque a new look. Amazingly, as a demonstration of religious tolerance in Indonesia, a Friendship Tunnel connects the Cathedral Church and the Istiqlal Mosque.
