Although expensive, drip irrigation could be used to grow sugarcane. Thailand already uses drip irrigation for sugarcane. Drip irrigation has advantages, such as saving on fertilizer. Only half of the 200 kg/ha phosphate fertilizer is needed. Water use is better managed with drip irrigation than with trench irrigation. Because drip fertilization leaves fewer nutrients available for weed growth and weeds are less likely to grow.
