Soil Types for Growing Teak

In any type of soil, the teak tree (Tectona grandis) can be grown. However, loam soil, sandy loam, and sandy clay soil types with a pH of 6-6.5 are ideal for growing teak trees.

It is essential for potential planters to test the soil conditions. For example, dolomite lime needs to be added if the soil is found to be acidic. Approximately 1.5 tonnes of dolomite lime per hectare is required. In addition, the drainage of the teak land should be checked. Rocky soils and poor drainage can cause teak trees to grow crooked and have low branches.

At the beginning of growth, teak tree seedlings require high humidity conditions. Therefore, plant the seedlings at the beginning of the rainy season. Make sure that water does not easily the flood soil in the area where the seedlings will grow. Therefore, land drainage must be well.
